Five critical points when selecting hygienic valves
From surface roughness to seal material: choosing the right valve for food and pharma lines.
The first criterion is internal surface roughness; Ra ≤ 0.8 µm is targeted for product contact surfaces. The second is dead volume: valves and connections must not leave pockets the CIP solution cannot reach.
Seal material (EPDM, FKM, silicone) must suit the product and cleaning chemicals; material traceability documents and declarations of conformity should be requested with delivery.
